This is not exactly an equivalent, only it can be helpful, so I would mention it.
There is a much simpler mode actually, which is to navigate backward (Ctrl+-). Fifty-fifty if the file is closed, VS opens up the file in a new tab. Of grade this is useful only in opening the closed tab immediately after y'all have airtight the tab (ie, if you haven't navigated anywhere else much).

Simple and good enough for "classical" files just unable to reopen other tabs like source control explorer for instance.

If you're using VS 2008, PowerCommands offers a "Undo Close" pane, featuring your recently closed documents, or similar David said, check the File menu. PowerCommands doesn't limit the number of files it shows, though.

Recent files list does contain files opened out of a solution telescopic, along with well-nigh files opened with in the current solution. With the about recent file being listed at the acme.

The ordering is not most recent closed, simply rather near recently opened, which is sadly not ideal.

You lot can actually practise this (at to the lowest degree in Visual Studio 2019) by pressing Ctrl+T,R which opens a fiddling window which shows the last opened windows.

As NotAPro pointed out, the combination I mentioned seems to take changed to Ctrl+1,Ctrl+R

In Visual Studio 2020 you tin can use Shift+Ctrl+T, which is associated with Reopen Closed Editor. This should practice what you lot're expecting.

In VS Code the default is:
{ "key": "ctrl+shift+t", "command": "workbench.activity.reopenClosedEditor" }
Ctrl+Shift+P "Open Default Keyboard Shortcuts (JSON)" Add together this value if it's not your default.Oct 24, 2020 at ii:33

This really but works though if yous were working in that file immediately before closing it.

This even works if you accept closed all the tabs. Merely need to "Continue Open / Pin" each tab else information technology volition keep replacing the tab.

The Standard toolbar - under the Navigate backward arrow icon - shows the list of files that Ctrl+- loops over. It lists open files even if yous did not edit them. At least in VS2017.
April 13, 2020 at 14:59
@pasx, you need not edit but y'all accept to navigate to the file (i.e. open the file) for ctrl - to piece of work. Imagine you closed a background tab that yous didn't navigate to. You tin can't ctrl- to that file. Hope VS addresses this at some bespeak.
